Former captain of the Sri Lanka Cricket team Angelo Mathews has resumed his personal training and has added a video to his social media accounts.
Mathews played in the Test series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Pallekele last April and later informed Sri Lanka Cricket that he was considering leaving international cricket.
However, he did not officially resign and asked the SLC selection committee not to consider the selection process until further notice due to personal reasons.
Sri Lanka Cricket awarded national contracts to 18 players until the end of 2021 last August, but Mathews’ name was not included due to his withdrawal from the selection process.
Mathews, a 34-year-old all-rounder, has missed a number of international cricket matches over the past five months as the selection committee allowed more space for young players.
Mathews did not play in either of the two Twenty20 World Cups selected for the forthcoming Twenty20 World Cup, based on his performance in the Dialog-SLC Invitational Twenty20 Cricket Tournament and the South African Championship.
The inaugural edition of the 2021-23 ICC World Test Cricket Championship is scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka in November this year.
