With 11 balls and 6 wickets to spare, MS Dhoni-led CSK regained the top spot in the standings with an emphatic win against Virat Kohli’s RCB CSK started the chase on a very strong note, thanks to openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (38) and Faf du Plessis (31). They put on 71 runs for the first wickets.
Virat Kohli took a brilliant catch diving forward off Chahal to send Gaikwad packing and soon after, Maxwell struck on his first ball by removing du Plessis. Moeen Ali (23) and Ambati Rayudu (32) then steadied CSK’s chase and took them close to the target. Current “Purple Cap” holder Harshal Patel picked both their wickets as RCB eyed a late comeback. However, Suresh Raina (17) and Dhoni (11*) saw the team over the line.
At the end of the first innings, the Chennai Super Kings were the happier side. Despite Virat Kohli (53) and Devdutt Padikkal (70) put on 111 runs for the opening stand and took RCB to 90/0 after 10 overs, RCB could manage to post 156/6 in 20 overs. The main reason being Dwayne Bravo, who returned with figures of 3/24 in his 4 overs. Moreover, Shardul Thakur also bagged two wickets. The start of the match and the toss were delayed due to a sandstorm in Sharjah.
