School girls listed in the final 17 ahead of the World Cup qualifiers

16 year old Vishmi Gunarathna of Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha is set to be the youngest Sri Lanka Women’s Cricketer as her name was listed in the final 17 ahead of the World Cup qualifiers which is set to begin on the 21st of November in Zimbabwe.

Young Vishmi is a fast bowling all rounder and a great striker of the ball. She was one of the youngest members in her school’s U19 team and was also part of the Seenigama Ladies Cricket Club. Earlier this year, she set the record of being the youngest at the age of 15 to score a First Class century. She scored 112 in 117 balls against Chilaw Marians Women’s CC.

2 other school girls have been named in the final 16 amongst the 3 youngest members. Senior girls of Devapathiraja Vidyala, Rathgama Imesha Dulani and Sachini Nisansala make it to the squad. Imesha is a right handed batter and Sachini is a rare find of being a left arm Chinaman bowler. They were also team members of the Seenigama WCC where Chamari Attapattu serves as the captain of the club.
Chamari Atapattu needs no introduction as she is the captain of the current squad and is the only Sri Lankan to be part of the upcoming KFC Big Bash League in Australia. She is an aggressive southpaw and is the only ODI and T20 centurian for Sri Lanka. Her experience will be pivotal as SLWC hasn’t played ODIs since 2019.

The final 16 Squad –
Chamari Atapattu (C), Harshitha Madavi (VC), Inoka Ranaweera, Nilakshi de Silva
Hasini Perera, Sugandika Kumari, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Ama Kanchana, Udeshika Prabodhani, Achini Kulasuriya, Anushka Sanjeewani, Kavisha Dilhari, Tharika Sewwandi, Prasadani Weerakkody, Imesha Dulani, Vishmi Gunaratne and Sachini Nisansala
Former Sri Lanka Cricketer Hashan Thilakaratne has been entrusted in the role as the Head Coach of SL Women’s Cricket. Sri Lanka WC was set to play against Pakistan before the qualifiers but was cancelled due to reasons followed after the New Zealand cancellation of their tour. The top 3 performers in the qualifiers will play the Women’s ODI World Cup held in New Zealand.
