Pakistan beat Scotland by 72 runs in another Group B match of the 2021 World Cup Cricket Tournament. Accordingly, Pakistan will end the Super 12 round undefeated and advance to the semi-finals.
Prior to this match, Pakistan had qualified for the semi-finals of this group and therefore this was like a training match for them. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. They decided not to bat second but to bat first as a prelude to the semi-finals.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rizwan and skipper Azam started the innings. The powerplay opportunity for the first 6 overs was maintained until the end of the innings, but it collapsed shortly after the end of Rizwan’s 15-run innings. At that time Pakistan had scored 35 runs. Zaman, who did not have a chance to succeed throughout the tournament, was run out for 8 in this match as well, before being bowled by Greaves.
Azam, who is leading the team in his first Twenty20 World Cup, scored his fourth half-century of the tournament with 66 off 47 balls. His superb innings included four fours, five sixes and three sixes, the 24th half-century of his Twenty20 international career.
The 39-year-old Malik, who proved once again that age is just a few numbers, hit four fours and six sixes in 18 balls to go unbeaten on 54 * with a superb attacking pace of 300.00. That innings enabled Pakistan to score 189 runs for the loss of only 4 wickets at the end of their allotted 20 overs. Malik led the way with an unbeaten 47 * off 15 balls for the 5th wicket partnership.
Chasing a mammoth 190, Scotland were bowled out for 117 in their first innings. Apart from right-hander Berrington’s 54 *, the Pakistani bowlers did not allow a single Scottish batsman to cross the 17-run mark.
