Sharmila Jansen from Gateway College Rajagiriya broke a 30-year-old record when she clocked 24.98 seconds in the U18 girls 200m on the second day of the Junior National Trials continued at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday. Sharmila erased the record of 25.2 secs set by Tania van Heer in 1986.

Northern region once again proved they are best in Pole Vault when in the boys U20 they secured the first three places in the respective age category. A Puvitharan set a new meet record clearing 4.70m, S Kabilsan took second place with a height of 4.20m and R Jathusan was placed third clearing 4.10m.
Seven new meet records were established on day two bringing the total so far to 18.
Purnima Jayamali Gunaratna from Kalutara Athletic Association produced the best performance by establishing a new meet record in the U23 girls High Jump when she cleared a height of 1.80 metres. Heshani Maheshika set also set a new meet record in the discus throw with a throw of 38.29 meters in the U16 girls event.
