Spinners Shine But West Indies In Trouble

The spinners had a fantastic outing today in the 2nd day of the 1st Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies as the visitors found themselves losing 6 wickets after bundling Sri Lanka all out today. West Indies were trailing by 273 runs as the scoreboard read 113/6.

The Sri Lanka batters had the better day yesterday. As many as 3 Fifty plus scores were made yesterday as Day 1 ended 267/3. However, it was not the same today as 7 wickets fell and in the hands of the West Indian spinners.

Dimuth Karunaratne was unfortunately stumped on 147 and Dhananjaya De Silva was the first to go on hit wicket. He was on 61 and thie was his second time in his test career where he got out on hit wicket.

The only batter who made some runs was Dinesh Chandimal but he fell on 45. The tail enders hung in as they tried their best to go past 400 runs but fell short and were all out for 386. Roston Chase finished with 5 for 83. Warrican and Gabriel shared the remaining 5.

West Indies were off to a good start but wickets started to fall after tea. Lasith Embuldeniya made the initial breakthrough and he picked up his 50th Test wicket. Afterwards, left armer Praveen Jayawickrama and off spinner Ramesh Mendis rattled the West Indians with 5 wickets between them. Ramesh picked up 3 wickets.

Day 3 will resume tomorrow and Sri Lanka may to enforce a follow on if they repeat their bowling success.
