It has been reported that Sri Lanka opening batter Avishka Fernando has been tested Positive from Covid-19. He will be the second player after Wanindu Hasaranga to miss the upcoming Zimbabwe Tour.
Wanindu Hasaranga sustained an injury in the LPL finals and will be unavailable. Avishka Fernando is also the second player after Dasun Shanaka to be recently diagnosed with Covid. Dasun Shanaka has recovered and will lead the team as he has passed the fitness test.
In a recent turn of events, Sri Lanka Cricket lifted the ban on the three players who were suspended from International Cricket during last year’s tour of England. Sveral key players also out of the tour, such as Bhanuka Rajapaksa who recently retired and Kusal Janith Perera who is rested from the tour.
It is very likely that Kusal Mendis could make an international comeback as Avishka’s replacement in the opening position. He is reported to have passed the fitness test. The finalized squad is yet to be announced.
