ICC has named Dushmantha Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dimuth Karunaratna in the ICC Men’s World Teams for all three formats.
The ODI team has both Chameera and Hasaranga. It should be noted that they were the highest wicket taker and highest run scorer for Sri Lanka respectively. Chameera in particular is the highest wicket taker in ODIs in 2021 with 20.
The T20 team was no surprise as Wanindu, who picked as many as 36 wickets and the highest wicket taker in the T20 tournament, was an obvious pick. The same goes to Dimuth Karunaratna who stood tall among the run scorers in Test cricket. Both these players are nominees for the player of the year awards for their relevant formats.
Surprisingly, no player from the top 4 ranked teams in ODI have been named in the World Team. This is the first time players from England, India, New Zealand or Australia have been excluded. This is also the first time where players from Ireland were listed on the World ODI, mainly due to their status being changed to ICC full member after receiving their Test Status.
