Andre Russell muscled 7 sixes in his unbeaten 31-ball 70 as Kolkata Knight Riders revived from a middle-over stutter to finish the 138 chase in just 14.3 overs. Kolkata hence bounced back to winning ways with a six-wicket victory at the Wankhede Stadium. Rahul Chahar threatened to take the game away with his double whammy before registering an impressive bowling figure, but Punjab seemed out of plan to stop Russell.
Earlier, Umesh Yadav registered his best bowling figures in IPL as Kolkata Knight Riders restricted a power-packed Punjab Kings batting line-up to just 137. Umesh finished with 4 for 23 – two in the powerplay and two in the middle overs – while Tim Southee picked two as Kolkata bundled out Punjab in 18.2 overs. The remaining bowlers, especially the spinners complemented them perfectly in the middle overs, conceding 37 runs in eight overs, comprising 27 dot balls and two boundaries between themselves. Had it not been for Kagiso Rabada and his impressive cameo of 25 runs off 16 balls, Punjab would have settled for an even lower total.
