Jacynta Galabadaarachchi Wins Big At PFA Scotland Awards

Jacynta Galabadaarachchi won both the Celtic FC Women’s Player of the Year and the PFA Young Player of the Year at the PFA Scotland Awards. She is a 20 year old Australian born football player of a Sri Lankan origin and also has Italian citizenship through her mother.

She was part of the Australian U17 and U20 Women’s Football team and now plays in the Scottish Women’s Premier League, playing as a forward for Celtic FC. She was influenced into taking up the sport through her older brother who was coached by Ange Postecoglou, the current manager of Celtic FC, in his junior days.

“This is the first year that there has been a professional league and you can tell the difference already. It is heading in the right direction. It just needs to keep going. Hopefully we will be treated equally like the men one day but it’s heading in the right direction.”

“I don’t know what the secret is [to my success this year]. I actually started off quite slowly this season but then I got into the rhythm of things. I’ve got a great team around me and I could not have won this award without all the girls and all the staff members,” she told the Scotland Herald.
