Yupun Abeykoon breaks the 10 second barrier!

Yupun Abeykoon destroyed his personal best timing as he managed to run in 9.96 seconds, beating his previous best of 10.06 seconds, at the 100m A finals of Résisprint International 2022 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.

Yupun’s timing is remarkable for it is now the fastest timing by an Asian this year and the only instance where an Asian runner ran a sub 10. This record supersedes the fact that this is a new Sri Lankan or South Asian record. This is also the 4th best timing by an Asian after Bingtian Su, Femi Ogunode and Ryota Yamagata.

Yupun Abeykoon was unlucky to miss out on a top 3 finish this week at the Stockholm Diamond League but managed to beat his personal best today, a few days later since in Sweden and made the long trip to Switzerland, His next stop is the World Athletics Championship in Oregon.
