NOC starts to promote  eSports on OLYMPIC DAY at NuwaraEliya

Esports makes its debut as a demonstration sport at the Asian Games in Jakarta

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC) will introduce eSports at the Olympic Day celebrations in NuweraEliya on June 25.Once again NOC will organize the Olympic day run  to mark the World Olympic day which is on 23RD June . Maxwell de Silva the Secretary of the NOC said to Sri Lanka sports.com eSports keeping abreast of the times and technology and it is going to be new which is very popular among the children at school level.

The video-gaming craze which is sweeping the world – it is estimated that the business will be worth almost US$1.5 billion by 2020 – will be on show as the progressive NOC brings the future home to 1,500 schoolchildren and teachers from the NuweraEliya District. We are promoting this new sport through the Olympic day run and very sure this sport is going to spread every where in the world.

“We are one of the few National Olympic Committees in the world to support eSports as we believe firmly that is the future,” revealed  NOC secretary , “We will introduce eSports to our youth at our Olympic Day which will once again be held under the theme of ‘Move, Learn and Discover’.”

 

The NOC of Sri Lanka is, looking ahead, has decided the time is now to get local school children tuned to eSports. The Olympic Day theme of Move, Learn and Discover is mainly to encourage people to get active physically. With eSports online, it will also target mental stimulation.

 

The ‘Learn’ aspect at this year’s Olympic Day event will feature a workshop to educate teachers while more than 1,000 schoolchildren will take part in a three-kilometre run to underscore the ‘Move’ feature of the theme. The ‘Discover’ aspect will feature eSports – learning about a new sport.

 

“We will be strongly promoting eSports and it will be a good opportunity for our kids to find about what competitive team-based gaming is all about,” De Silva added. So we are very keen to see NuwaraEliya

Esports will make its debut as a demonstration sport at the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in August. It will be a medal sport at the 2022 AsianGames in Hangzhou, China.Therefore introduce this new sport is more important said Maxwell de Silva who is always give his full effort to popular this type of new sports.

In Jakarta, the popular video game League of Legends will be one of six eSports titles teams from eight countries will play. Indonesia as hosts of the Asian Games qualifies automatically. The other teams will be determined by qualifiers: one each from South East, South, Central and West Asia regions and three from East Asia region, which includes League powerhouses South Korea and China as well as Hong Kong, Japan, Macau and Chinese Taipei.

“We will have to qualify from South Asia. There is only one berth available and fingers-crossed we will be able to get that spot,” De Silva said. “I’m sure we have the talent to achieve this goal.” With this vision we are very keen to promote this new sport and wanted to qualify from the South Asian region.

With more than 300 million people tuned into eSports today, it is believed that the Olympics too could include eSports as a medal event in the future. A strong showing at the Asian Games could boost the chances of eSports becoming an Olympic sport.
