Namibia stun Sri Lanka to claim T20 World Cup opener

Minnows Namibia have stunned Asia Champions Sri Lanka by 55 runs to begin their first-round campaign. SriLanka are now in a spot of bother as they could lose out on a spot in the T20 World Cup Super 12.

Ben Shikongo and David Wiese starred with the ball while Jan Frylinck and Jonathan Smit’s shone with the willow.

Namibia set 164-run target but Sri Lanka were dismissed for 108.

Chasing a target of 164, Sri Lanka were off to their worst possible start. Their star batters who became their backbone in the Asia Cup triumph failed miserably. Pathum Nissanka (9), Kusal Mendis (6) and Danushka Gunathilaka (0) departed inside the powerplay to make it 21/3. Ben Shikongo was the wrecker-in-chief. In his first over, he bagged two wickets in two balls to wreak havoc.
