Sri Lanka under pressure to stay alive in competition, to face UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Sri Lanka are all geared up to face each other in a T20 World Cup 2022 Group A match on Tuesday, October 18 at Simonds Stadium in Geelong.

Sri Lanka, led by Dasun Shanaka, slumped to a 55-run defeat at the hands of Gerhard Erasmus-led Namibia at the same venue in Geelong.

Their net run rate of -2.750 is the worst among all the eight teams in Round 1. A loss in their next game would make it extremely hard for them to advance to the Super 12 of the tournament.

The UAE, led by CP Rizwan, on the other hand, started with a three-wicket defeat to Scott Edwards’s Netherlands after a thrilling contest in Geelong.

They need to win the next game to avoid going down to the bottom of the points table. It’s pertinent that UAE are yet to beat Sri Lanka in T20Is.
