Hashan to take over as B’desh’s women’s head coach

Hashan Tillekaratne the Sri Lankan women’s cricket head coach yesterday submitted his resignation letter to the Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva and he is expected to join as Bangladesh women’s cricket head coach.

When Daily News contacted Hashan Tillekaratne he said the discussion between Bangladesh cricket Board officials and him was successful and decided to join as head coach of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team with effect from November 1. I have planned to leave for Bangladesh on October 31 while the first assignment is to leave for New Zealand with the Bangladesh women’s team and then back to Sri Lanka for the Bangladesh match series next January.

Hashan the former Sri Lanka skipper said Sri Lanka Cricket gave good support to the women’s team during his period while he was lucky to finish his assignment as the runners up at the recently concluded Asia Cup T 20 cricket tournament in Bangladesh. Actually after 14 years we were the runners up in the women’s Asia Cup. We have a good women’s side in Sri Lanka and our supporting staff will handle the team after my departure, added Tillekaratne.

However Ashley de Silva the CEO of SLC has still not accepted Thillekaratne’s letter according to sources close to the SLC.

Champaka Ramanayake the former fast bowling coach is the present Bangladesh High performance head coach while former leg spinner Rangana Herath is the Bangladesh men’s team spin specialist coach already with the team at the T 20 World Cup. (DR)
