Five West Indies players to look at the Global T20

The new Canadian T20 cricket league known as the Global T20 Canada has been in the cricket news from a few days as it is going to witness the return of David Warner and Steve Smith. The Australian duo was banned from top-flight international cricket for a year in a ball-tampering incident in March 2018. Former Australia captain Smith has been named as one of the ten marquee players named for the Global T20.

The 22-match tournament begins on 28th June and is expected to promote cricket in a new generation of Canadian fans who will get to see both domestic and international talent battle it out against each other for the title. The tournament will feature five teams from Canada and one team from West Indies.

We look at a list of five star players from the West Indies you will want to keep an eye on in the Global T20 Canada.

#5 Evin Lewis

Making this list snubbing the likes of Darren Sammy and Kieron Pollard, Evin Lewis is slowly becoming an integral part of the West Indies batting line-up. Coming fresh off a decent Indian Premier League campaign where his team just failed to make the qualifying spots, he is expected to go all guns blazing in the Global T20.

Like his mentor Chris Gayle, Lewis is an explosive left-handed batsman and you can see the similarities between them. He will have the opportunity play alongside him for the Vancouver Knights in the Global T20.

#4 Sunil Narine

With the seemingly perpetual problem of his bowling action, Sunil Narine’s action was again called out in the 2018 Pakistan Super League. However, he was cleared up soon after and he delivered the goods in the Indian Premier League where he was named as the Player of the Series.

Undergoing a renaissance, Narine has blossomed into a completely different player now, boasting the prowess of hitting big ones as an opener when the field restrictions are set alongside his ability to take wickets at a regular interval. He will feature for the Montreal Tigers in the tournament.

#3 Dwayne Bravo

The entertainer, DJ Bravo still retains his prime abilities and is a handy player for any team pulling the strings in all aspects of the game, batting, bowling and fielding. The complete player in every aspect, he recently won the IPL title with Chennai Super Kings and was a mainstay in the team.

He will play for the Winnipeg Hawks in the Global T20 Canada.

#2 Andre Russell

His off the field activities hinder his in the field performances, but we all know what the big man from Kingston, Jamaica is capable of. Renowned for his long distance sixes, “Dre Russ” is all about that power and can smash the ball out of the park frequently.

He is also a bowler who can bowl at a terrifying pace, he has struggled a bit recently in that aspect of the game with a hamstring problem. However, he will be looking to prove things after serving his year long ban in a similar fashion to what he did in the IPL 2018.

He is playing for the Vancouver Knights in the summer T20 tournament.

#1 Chris Gayle

There is no bigger name than Chris Gayle in the T20 format of the game for West Indies, and there are no signs that he is going to give up that title any soon. Proving that in the IPL 2018, he scored 368 runs at an average of 40.88. With almost all the T20 batting records to his name, Gayle is a nightmare for bowlers in his best form.

If he can get going at the Global T20, there is nothing that can stop the devastating Gayle show. He features for the Vancouver Knights alongside compatriots Andre Russell and Evin Lewis.
