Team India star doubtful for 2nd T20I as Hardik Pandya and Co. suffer fresh injury scare before Pune game: Report

Team India has been dealt a massive blow ahead of the upcoming series decider against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Hardik Pandya-led Team India will meet Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday.

It seems like Team India has been dealt a massive blow ahead of the upcoming series decider against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has reportedly stayed back in Mumbai after picking up a niggle during the three-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and hosts India. Samson had a forgetful day at the office when Hardik Pandya-led India squared off against Sri Lanka in the series opener at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Wicketkeeper-batter Samson failed to fire for Team India with the willow and the ace cricketer also dropped the catch of Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka during the low-scoring thriller between the Asian giants. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper played a forgetful knock of 5 off 6 balls in the 1st T20I against the Dasun Shanaka-led side. As per the latest developments, Samson is a doubtful starter for the series decider between India and Sri Lanka on Thursday.

According to a report filed by Cricbuzz, it has been learned that Samson has not travelled to Pune with the Pandya-led side for the 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka. Samson has picked up a niggle on his knee after attempting the diving catch of the Sri Lankan batter in the opening over at the Wankhede. Samson was reportedly advised to take medical advice after experiencing swelling although the star player remained on the field following the incident.

Earlier, Samson was called out by legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar following his mediocre knock against Sri Lanka in the 1st T20I against Sri Lanka. Samson went for a slog after facing five deliveries in the series opener. However, Samson’s decision to attack Dhananjaya de Silva backfired as the wicketkeeper-batter was removed for cheap in the Powerplay.

“And this time, it’s the leading edge going to short third man. He is such a fine player. Sanju Samson has so much of talent but his shot selection sometimes lets him down. And this is one more occasion where it has disappointed,” Gavaskar had said on air. Pandya-led Team India will meet Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday.
