A 15 member squad has been selected to play for the Sri Lanka Cricket President’s XI in the three day warm.up game against England Lions team from January 27-29 at R. Premadasa International cricket stadium.
The National selection committee has selected this squad based on the performance at the last Major clubs three day cricket tournament while few of these players have a good chance of playing for the Sri Lanka A team against England Lions.
The openers Lasith Croosepulle Chilaw Marians CC and Lahiru Udara of NCC are in this squad and Udara has been named as wicket keeper of the side .All rounder Janith Liyanage from Ragama CC is the most experienced player who has played three T-20 Internationals against Australia and India has played 53 first class games scoring 2314 runs with 4 centuries and 14 half centuries while former Royal batting star Pasindu Sooriyabandara from Moors SC is in good form at domestic level.
Chamindu Wijesinghe the all rounder of CCC who was named man of the final Dushan Hemantha,Avishka Tharindu, and Sahan Arachchige the all rounder from NCC are in the strong batting line up.
Former Royalist Kavindu Pathirathne the left arm medium paceman and Nimesh Vimukthi are the leading pacemen of the squad while Ace Capital SC Nimsara Atharagalla who took a four wicket haul in the opening National super league game has also being selected for this squad .
Kaumal Nanayakkara the Army SC leg spinner who was among the wickets at the last Major clubs three day tournament has been picked while Colts CC top order batter Avishka Perera the former Nalandian is also in the squad based on their performance.
Meanwhile the selectors have named the Sri Lanka A team to play against England Lions team but it has still not been approved by the Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe.
The selected teams have to get approval from the National Selection committee headed by General Shavendra Silva and then it has to get approval from the National Sports Council headed by Arjuna Ranatunga before being approved by the Minister.
