SL Olympians run ahead of NOC

The Olympians Run 2018 was held in Kandy on the 22nd of June 2018 by the Sri Lanka Olympians (SLO) in celebration of the International Olympic Day which falls on the 23rd of June.
The event was programmed for the participation of 2000 participants however the turnout exceeded 2700 participants! Amongst them were over 1500 students from various Schools in the Central Province and the rest were from the 3 Armed Forces, Police, Youth Movements, University students of the Central Province and other Sports Enthusiasts.
The 4.5km Run kicked off at Bogambarra Grounds and ended at Gatambay Grounds in Kandy. The Runners were ceremoniously waived off by Olympian R.A. Wimalasena Perera to mark the start of the event. Marathon Runner, Olympian Wimalasena represented Sri Lanka at the Olympics almost 50 years ago. The event also brought together close to 30 Olympians from all around the Island.
The Chief Guest at the Event was the Chief Minister of the Central Province, Hon. Sarath Ekanayake.
All students that completed the race were presented with a medal and a certificate of participation at the Hands of the Chief Minister. Awards were also presented to those who were placed in the Art Competition which was held parallel to the Run.
The Sri Lanka Olympians (SLO) is headed by Sriyani Kulawansha, OLY and the Secretary of SLO is Damyanti Darsha, OLY and the organization thanked all their Sponsors Nestle Lanka, Asiri Health, Softlogic LIFE and SLT to make the event a great success.
