Ireland sets new record for highest Test score against Sri Lanka

Ireland set a new record for their highest-ever Test score, posting 492 runs, thanks in part to centuries from Paul Stirling and Curtis Campher, making them only the third and fourth Irishmen to achieve this feat in the longest format of cricket. Sri Lanka started their reply strongly, with an 81-run opening partnership before rain halted play on day two in Galle. They currently trail by 411 runs, with Nishan Madushka (41*) and Dimuth Karunaratne (39*) at the crease.

However, it was Ireland’s day, as Stirling (103), Campher (111), and captain Andy Balbirnie (95) contributed significantly to their team’s impressive total. Lorcan Tucker also scored a valuable 80, while Prabath Jayasuriya took five wickets for 174 for the hosts, with Asitha Fernando and Vishwa Fernando claiming two wickets apiece.
