Trinity college, Kandy skipper Hasitha Boyagoda once again came to the limelight when he was adjudged the best school boy cricketer of the year at the Mobitel school boy cricketer award ceremony held at Colombo Hilton Ballroom on Tuesday (July 03) evening.
Boyagoda who himself set up new under world cup record with scoring an excellent knock of 191 against Kenya later scored back to back tons at the school cricket season including big match century. He will now join join Nondescript Cricket Club in Colombo to focus on his future carrier in cricket.
The elegant left hande, r also a useful off spinner, hopes to take part at the forthcoming under 23 provincial tournament. Boyagoda said exclusively to the Srilankasports.com his ambition would be to represent Sri Lanka in the national squad as soon as possible.
“I knew it’s not a easy, but my dedication is very high. At the moment I am doing my CIMA Exams and hope to continue education with the cricket. The prolific all rounder also reminds his studies and said getting 9 A’s at the G.C.E O/L and 3 A’s from the G.C.E A/ L big boost for my future education.
Boyagoda’s father Dr Sanjaya Boyagoda who himself was past Dharmarajian cricketer and wife were very happy parents at this ceremony. Dr Sanjaya said his son always maintained good combination with cricket and education but we never force him.
This award received Hasitha from another Trinitian later cross over to Royal Ranjan Senarath Madugalle who is presently ICC Chief match referred . Madugalle said focused mentality and injury prevention are very important for school cricketers. Fitness has to build up all cricketers and from the school level they have to maintain. Discipline also useful during sports said well disciplined cricketer Madugalle.
Jehan Daniels skipper of St Josephs and Ashen Bandara of St Aloysius Galle won best all-rounder and best fielder awards while Richmond and Mahinda Galle teams received All Island best team champion and runner up awards.St Peters Bambalalitiya spinner Sachin Silva won the most popular school boy crickter award.
