Sri Lanka under 19 team led by Sineth Jayawardena turned in a fine team effort to record a seven wicket win over West Indies under 19 team in their second four day game to gain a 1-0 series win at Rangiri Dambulla International cricket stadium yesterday.
Sri Lanka youth team chasing a winning target of 79 runs reached their target with seven wickets in hand and celebrated a series win before lunch yesterday.
It was great bowling by Sri Lanka spinners led by off spinner Vihas Thewmika and leg spinner Malsha Tharupathi to restrict Opponent in both innings while West Indies left handers Jordan Johnson played a fighting unbeaten knock of 157 in 163 balls with 20 fours and a six which was not enough to save the game but Johnson who made back to back centuries (149 at first four day game) undoubtedly best batter of this two-match series while Dinura Kalupahana who made 150 at the first four day game has shown his all round ability during this series. Malsha Tharupathi the deputy skipper also among the wickets and among the runs to ensure his place once again.
The final day started yesterday with West Indies continuing their second innings and last two wickets were taken by Sri Lankan bowlers and West Indies added 26 runs to the overnight total. Johnson was unbeaten on 157 while Vihas Thewmika took 3 for 63 and Malsha Tharupathi and Kaveesha Piyumal took two wickets each.

We have to tour Pakistan next October before the World Cup under 19 in next January in Sri Lanka while our boys got good match exposure during their West Indies series added Manager Jayantha Seneviratne.
