Nevindu Lakman and Chanithma Sinalay clinches Junior National squash titles

Sri Lanka’s rising star in junior squash, Nevindu Lakman, cemented his status as the undisputed Junior National Champion by securing a historic third consecutive championship title at the 34th Ritzbury-sponsored Sri Lanka Junior National Squash Championship. The thrilling tournament concluded at the Air Force Squash Complex in Ratmalana on Sunday. Lakman, representing DS Senanayake College, not only clinched the championship but also maintained his position as Asia’s third-ranked junior squash player. His remarkable journey to this achievement began in 2021, and he has continued to dominate the competition with unwavering determination.

On the girls’ side, Chanithma Sinalay of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya displayed her exceptional talent and dedication by claiming the Girls Junior National Championship title for the second consecutive year, marking a remarkable back-to-back victory.

In the highly anticipated Under-19 final, Nevindu Lakman faced off against Sehath Perera of Royal College. The match was a fiercely contested battle that went to four sets, with Lakman emerging victorious by a score of 3-1.

In the girls’ division, Junior National Champion Chanithma Sinalay showcased her prowess by facing off against her schoolmate, Themini Palliyaguru, in the finals. Sinalay’s exceptional performance resulted in a straightforward 3-0 victory.
