Sri Lanka Squad of 36 players named for Asian Rugby 7s

A Sri Lankan squad of 36 players was named for the Asian Sevens Under-20 competition which will take place in Hong Kong next month at the Kings Park rugby grounds.

In 2016 Sri Lanka won the event while in the following year they ended up as runners-up. Nilfer Ibrahim will take over coaching duties from Sudath Sampth. Sri Lanka won this event in 2016 when Inthi Marikar was the High Performance Ruby Director of Sri Lankan Rugby. The surprise omissions from the squad are Kingswood’s Mohamed Seshan and Ishara Liyanagae from St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota, both of whom did a magnificent job this season for their respective institutions.

Squad of 36:

Isipathana College – Chamodh Fernando (CR&FC), H. Anjula, Harith Bandara (CR&FC), Randy Silva (Havelocks) and M. Rathnayake.

Wesley College – Timira Amanda (Navy), Dayan Sabar, Avishka Lee (CH&FC), Avantha Lee (CH&FC) and Mursheed Zubair.

St. Joseph’s College – Gihan Perera (Navy), Chahura Senaviratne (Kandy SC),  Gamunu Chethiya, Dulanjana Piyatissa and Kavinda Keshan.

Royal College – Shabith Feroze, Janidu Dilshan and Thulaib Hassen

St. Peter’s College – Theekshana Dissanayake (Havelocks), Jason Karunaratne, Rukshan Madusankha and Kenneth Wimaladasa.

St. Anthony’s – Dinuk Amerasinghe (Havelocks), Jehan Seelagama (Air Force) and Samuel Maduwantha (CH&FC).

Trinity College – Dilusha Dange (Kandy SC) and Vishwa Ranaraja.

S. Thomas’ College – Naveen Henekankanamage (CH&FC) and Christian De Lile.

Kingswood College – Lakshitha Ranaweera (Kandy SC) and Shannon Jansen (Kandy SC)

Dharmaraja College – Bawantha Udangamuwa and T. Tharaka (CR&FC).

Vidyartha College – P. Hettiarachchi.

Science College – Dhananjaya Fonseka.

Malliyadewa College – H. Dananjaya.

Head Coach – Nilfer Ibrahim.
