Australia cruises to 10-wicket win over West Indies in Adelaide

Australia has wrapped up a comfortable 10-wicket, three-day victory over the West Indies at Adelaide Oval.

The home side’s top three knocked off a 26-run chase after bowling the West Indies out early on day three, with Australia’s only concern coming when Usman Khawaja was struck in the face by a Shamar Joseph delivery.

He and Steve Smith had just about sealed the win when Khawaja was forced to retire hurt with Australia only one run short of victory. Marnus Labuschagne hit the winning run two balls later.

Mitch Starc claimed the wickets of Joshua da Silva (17) — out hooking for the second time in the match — and Alzarri Joseph (16) — caught behind.

Then Josh Hazlewood completed his 11th Test five wicket haul by knocking over the off stump of Gudakesh Motie (3) with the tourists still in arrears.

Shamar Joseph ensured the Aussies would have to bat again with a sumptuous off drive from the first ball he faced, as he and Kemar Roach combined to establish a paltry target.

Joseph was stumped from the second ball of a Nathan Lyon spell, ending the West Indies’ innings at 120 and leaving Australia a small target to chase.

Travis Head was named player of the match for his innings of 119 on day two.
