SL v AFG, 1st ODI – Pathum Nissanka’s Double Century Seals the Deal

Pathum Nissanka’s unbeaten 210-run innings surpassed Sanath Jayasuriya’s previous record of 189 runs and marked his highest individual score in ODIs at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium against Afghanistan. Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl first. Fareed Ahmad took 2 wickets, and Mohammad Nabi took 1. However, Sri Lanka scored 381/3 runs at the end of  50 overs.

While chasing the target, Afghanistan lost their first 5 wickets within the opening 9 overs. For the sixth wicket, Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai set up a 242-run partnership off 222 balls before Nabi (136) was dismissed by Pramod Madushan in the 45.2nd over. Omarzai scored an unbeaten 149 runs off 115 balls. Afghanistan managed to score only 339/6 in 50 overs, and Sri Lanka won by 42 runs. For Sri Lanka, Pramod Madushan took 4 wickets, and Dushmantha Chameera took 2. The next ODI will take place on Feb 11 at Pallekele.
