With only approximately one month remaining before the United States and the West Indies host the T20 World Cup 2024, some worrying news has come out of the Caribbean. According to reports, Cricket West Indies has received a ‘terror threat’ regarding the major event. Reportedly, the North of Pakistan hinted a security threat for the international cricket tournament, which prompted the cricket association to implement more stringent security protocols.
“We are monitoring and assessing the global situation and are in communication with the respective authorities to make sure that the necessary plans are in place for minimizing the risks that have been identified,” said Jonny Graves, CEO of the Cricket West Indies to Cricbuzz.
Additionally, the research asserts that the Pro-Islamic State has posed a security threat,
“Video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch of the Islamic State ISKhorasan (IS-K), which indiacted assaults in multiple countries and have urged their supporters to join the battle, were among the campaigns inciting violence against sporting events,” claimed the report.
But the CEO of CWI has reassured everyone attending the event that security is the board’s top priority.
“We have a thorough and effective security plan in place, and we want to remind all stakeholders that everyone’s safety and security at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is our top priority,” stated Graves.
The Daily Express claims that the threat was received by Pro-Islamic State (Daesh) through the media organization “Nashir Pakistan,” a propaganda channel linked to the Islamic State group.
Twenty20 World Cup is set to kickoff on June 1 the final scheduled for June 29 and is set to take place in the US and the West Indies.
