Bangladesh secures their first-ever T20 World Cup match victory against Sri Lanka by 2 wickets!

For the first time in a T20 World Cup, Bangladesh won against Sri Lanka by 2 wickets in the 15th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at Grand Prairie Stadium.

Asked to bat first, Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka started the innings brilliantly, scoring 47 runs off 28 balls including 7 fours and one six. However, Sri Lanka lost middle-order wickets at regular intervals. Bangladesh bowlers Rishad Hossain (3), Mustafizur Rahman (3), Taskin Ahmed (2), and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (1) took wickets and limited Sri Lanka’s innings to 124/9.

In reply, Towhid Hridoy and Litton Das scored 40 and 36 runs respectively, putting Bangladesh on the winning track. Nuwan Thushara’s superb yorkers took 4 wickets and put some pressure on Bangladesh, but Mahmudullah finished the game with 6 balls to spare.

In this match, Sri Lanka skipper Wanindu Hasaranga De Silva has become the top wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in T20Is with 108 wickets, going past Lasith Malinga‘s 107 wickets.
