Jakarta, Indonesia, August 16, 2018: The Olympic Council of Asia Executive Board is delighted with today’s decision of the IOC Executive Board to lift the suspension of Kuwait NOC conditionally.
The OCA Executive Board fully supports the decision of the IOC Executive Board, which allows Kuwaiti athletes to take part in the 18th Asian Games under the flag and anthem of Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti delegation will be led by the President of Kuwait Olympic Committee, Sheikh Talal Fahd Al Sabah, and will total 40 athletes and officials.
Kuwait NOC was suspended on October 27, 2015 due to government interference and conflicts in the sports law.
A similar ban was lifted just before the London 2012 Olympic Games for the same reason, allowing Kuwait to compete under the national flag.
The 18th Asian Games will take place in Jakarta and Palembang, capital of South Sumatra, from August 18 to September 2 with the participation of over 11,000 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees.
