Niluka will make history as the first Sri Lankan to be candidate for the Olympic Commission

Niluka Karunaratne made history by becoming the first Sri Lankan athlete to be a candidte to the Athletes’ Commission, which is empowered to represent all athletes by the International Olympic Committee.

4 ex-Olympic athletes were selected by the Athletes’ Commission, and Sri Lankan badminton player Niluka Karunaratne was not elected, but received 308 votes. All 10,613 athletes from 206 countries were eligible to vote, but only 6,576 cast ballots. It was pointed out that Niluka Karunaratne’s participation in this vote was a great victory for Sri Lanka.
