Sri Lanka Women beat Scotland Women by 5 wickets

Sri Lanka Women Secure Dominant Five-Wicket Victory Over Scotland in T20 World Cup Warm-Up

Sri Lanka’s women’s cricket team wrapped up their final ICC Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Scotland at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai. A clinical bowling display saw Scotland dismissed for a mere 58 runs, and although Sri Lanka’s chase had a few nervy moments, Kavisha Dilhari’s composed innings guided them to a successful finish.

Scotland Struggle as Sri Lanka’s Bowlers Dominate

After winning the toss, Scotland opted to bat first but got off to a disastrous start. Udeshika Prabodhani ripped through the Scottish top order, taking two wickets in the opening over. She removed Saskia Horley and Priyanaz Chatterji for ducks, while in between, Kathryn Bryce was run out without facing a ball, leaving Scotland reeling at one for three.

The early collapse set the tone for Scotland’s innings, with wickets falling consistently. Ailsa Lister was caught, leaving the team at 11 for four. Sachini Nisansala picked up two wickets for 10 runs, while Inoshi Priyadharshani, Inoka Ranaweera, and Ama Kanchana each claimed a wicket to contribute to the bowling effort.

Sarah Bryce fought hard to provide some resistance, top-scoring with 24, but she was dismissed at the start of the 17th over. Rachel Slater, who remained unbeaten on 10, was the only other player to reach double figures. Scotland were bowled out for just 58 in 19 overs, with an over left unused.

Sri Lanka Hold Their Nerve to Chase Down Target

In response, Sri Lanka’s chase also began with early trouble. Captain Chamari Athapaththu was trapped in front by Rachel Slater for just one run in the first over, followed by Vishmi Gunaratne, who was clean bowled by Kathryn Bryce for two, leaving Sri Lanka at six for two.

However, Kavisha Dilhari brought stability to the innings. She compiled a well-paced 27 off 34 balls, retiring out with the game almost in the bag for Sri Lanka. Despite a couple more wickets falling, Anushka Sanjeewani and Ama Kanchana remained calm and guided Sri Lanka to victory, with 4.3 overs to spare.

Result: Sri Lanka won by five wickets.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance, led by Udeshika Prabodhani’s impressive opening spell. They ensured that Scotland never found momentum, with only Sarah Bryce offering any meaningful resistance. Despite a shaky start to their chase, Sri Lanka’s batters, led by Kavisha Dilhari, held their nerve to secure the win comfortably.

This victory gives Sri Lanka a boost of confidence ahead of their opening group game against Pakistan, while Scotland will need to regroup and address their batting woes if they hope to be competitive in the main tournament.
