Kalinga Kumara came up with fine performances to enter the mens 400 final at the Asian Games which is now in progress in Jakartha. Kalinga and Aruna Dharshana competed in the quarter finals on Saturday morning while Aruna finished with a time of 46.97 seconds winnings his heats while Kalinga was placed third with the time of 45.99 seconds. Moving into the semifinals, Kalinga finished third with a time of 46.21 while Aruna finished third with 46. 53 seconds but failed to enter the finals. The finals will be held on Sunday.
The most disappointing news of the day came in the 10000m event, where medal hope Sri Lankan living in USA, Hiruni Wijeyaratna was unable to complete her pet event and was withdrawn half way.
Janaka Prasad Wimalasiri was lucky to enter the long jump at the games with 7.56 m. However the qualifying stand was 7.80 m. He managed to jump only 7.56m long and failed to move further.
Meanwhile Mens Volleyball team China beat Sri Lanka 3-1 at the preliminary round game. Sri Lanka spikers were able to win third set 25/20 but rest of the sets dominated by China.
Two boxers Dinidu Saparamadu and Dulanjani Dharmathilaka also also lost their bouts 64kg and 60kg weight class.
Meanwhile Sri lanka Badminton mens double heroes Sachin Dias and Buwaneka Gunathialka who won the match against Pakistan ready to plsy their quarter final game against more fancied China.
Two Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Eshan Bandara and Anusha Kodituwakku will be action on Sunday.
