Sri Lanka end the U19T20WC journey with a win over Australia

Sri Lankan U19 team completed their super six stage a comprehensive 12 run victory over Australia who have already resaved place in the semifinals of the u19 women’s T20 cricket world cup currenly underway Malaysia.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat, aiming to finish their tournament with a victory. Openers Sanjana Kavindi and Sumudu Nisansala provided a solid start, guiding Sri Lanka to 36-0 by the end of the powerplay. However, Lily Bassingthwaighte broke the partnership before Tegan Williamson dismissed Kavindi, leaving Sri Lanka at 56-2 at the halfway mark.

From there, Australia maintained control, striking at regular intervals to prevent any major partnerships and restricting Sri Lanka to 99. Bassingthwaighte was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Williamson and Hasrat Gill chipped in with two scalps each.

It would take a nearly impossibly big margin of victory for Australia to steal top spot from India in Group 1, though momentum into the semi-final stage should be of utmost importance to Lucy Hamilton’s side in their final Super Six outing
