Netmi Ahimsa, who won the World Wrestling bronze medal, left for America early this morning for further training.
Along with Nethmi Ahimsa, trainer Suranga Pushpakumara also joins this training session.
The target of this training session is the Asian Wrestling Championship which will be held in Jordan next March. She is going to receive training for about a month under a world wrestling training expert.
The Ministry of Sports has given full financial allocations related to air tickets and visa facilities for the athlete and the coach.
Nethmi Ahimsa defeated Russia’s Valeria Mikitish 6-2 to win the bronze medal in the women’s under-20 53kg category at the World Wrestling Championships in Pontevedra, Spain.
This victory is considered to be one of the greatest achievements of Sri Lanka in world-class wrestling. Nethmi previously won bronze medals in the women’s 57 kg weight category at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and at the Asian Under-20 Wrestling Championships that concluded this year.
