The much-awaited all-island finals of Sir John Tarbet Senior School Athletic Championship 2018 concluded yesterday at the Sugathadasa Stadium with Walala A. Rathnayake Central College (Girls) and St Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya (Boys) emerging overall champions in their respective categories.
Gateway International School and Maris Stella College Negombo took second and third places respectively in the Girls section while Ratnapura Sumana MV and Royal College Colombo finished second and third respectively in the Boys section.
Altogether 23 new meet records were established over the three days of the championships and significant performance was the best athlete of the year in the girls section Parami Wasanthi setting up two new meet records.
Parami of Kuliyapitiya Central College was adjudged Best Athlete amongst the girls and ST Amarasinghe of Royal College Colombo from the boys.
The Championship was sponsored by the premier chocolate brand Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), Ritzbury, for the seventh consecutive year.
This year, the championship attracted over 5000 participants from 200 schools.

Winner: Walala A. Rathnayake Central College with 240 points
1st Runner Up: Gateway International School, Rajagiriya
2nd Runner Up: Ratnapura Sumana Balika Vidyalaya
Overall Championship – Boys
Winner: St. Peter’s College, Colombo with 206 points
1st Runner Up: Maris Stella College, Negombo
2nd Runner Up: Royal College, Colombo
Best Athlete – Boys S. T. Amarasinghe, Royal College, Colombo
Best Athlete – Girls Parami Wasanthi, Kuliyapitiya Central College
Outstation Championship – Girls Ratnapura Sumana Girls School
Outstation Championship – Boys Maris Stella College, Negombo
