Hasini Ambalangodage representing the team ALFA won the Gold Medal in the mixed international relay in badminton at the Youth Olympic Games which is now in progress in Argentina. Her team consisted seven other shuttlers from USA, Bulgaria, Canada, Italy, India, Cambodia and Sweden.

Hasini from Vishaka College Colombo said it was a great chance to win a gold medal in a mixed international relay event. “I had to play with other players in my group. Our team consist with four boys and four girls and we had to play ten matches. Finally the team which obtained 110 points could win this game.” added Hasini.

“Winning a gold at Youth Olympic is very special for me and this is also a unforgetbale experience for me” said young Hasini Ambalangodage.

Her coach, Indonesian Tony Wahyudi, who is also the present national coach to Sri Lanka team was also present with her in Argentina. Coach Tony said this mixed international relay is good experience for Hasini. “She worked hard at practices. She had mixed fortunes in her singhe events, but she was lucky to be a member of the winning team to take gold at this youth Olympics.” the national coach added.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan Badminton Management Committee President Nishantha Jayasinghe said Hasini is performing well as a young shuttler. “At this  stage her medal  is so vital for Sri Lanka. She has got a good future and had already got good exposure from this event.” added Badminton chief. Nishantha Jayasinghe appreciated the services of the National Olympic Committee to give all facilities for Hasini to make this tour a success.

Sachin Dias from Sri Lanka who participated at the last Youth Olympics won a bronze medal.
