Parami wins 2000m steeplechase bronze medal at Youth Olympics

Sri Lankan athlete Parami Wasanthi Maristela Fernando won a Bronze medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Borneo’s Aires, Argentina on Monday (15) competing in the 2000m steeplechase event. She is the first female youth athlete to win a medal at this level.  Earlier She won the gold medal for 3000 m Steeplechase at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Jifu, Japan in June 2018.

Parami Wasanthi, an up and coming athlete from Kuliyapitiya MMV is the second world ranking athlete for the event. She had already proved her abulities for steeplechase running by wining many medals at International level. After the completion of the event, the Youth Olympic bronze medalist said that this was her best achievement in a short carrier and she hoped to go long way for Sri Lanka athletics.
National Olympic Committee President Suresh Subramanium who was present in Buones Aires to witness Parami’s event said that she is a promising talent for the future of Sri Lanka and would do everything possiblle to support her in the future for her athletic career.
