Jansen’s dream run earns personal best to enter top 10 at Youth Olympics

Shelinda Jansen, who had shown much promise in the recent meets in Sri Lanka and at international level completed a dream run to win her heat in 200m at the Youth Olympics in Argentina to finish her course with a personal best of 24.07 seconds to better her previous personal best(PB) of 24.98secs.

In average timing system, 17.year-old Jensen was adjudged to end up with 9th ranking out of 22 athletes in the Women’s 200m.

This is the third best time run by a Sri Lankan junior in the women’s 200m and the best time in the event in 24 years with the top two coming in 1994. Olympic Silver medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe has clocked the best Sri Lankan junior time of 23.18sec in 1994 while Asian Champion Damayanthi Darsha has clocked the second-best time of 23.21sec in the same year.
