Despair and Disparity?
Either Rs. 300 or Rs. 5,000, take it or leave it
In a highly contrasting move, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), have set and selling the
tickets for the ongoing third and final test at only Rs. 300 and Rs. 5,000,
respectively. Though, an affordable Rs. 300 is on offer, the solitary cheapest
price is restricted solely for the two grass banks or the “two standing hills”, as
stated in the cricket board’s site. The next best expensive alternative, comes at
a staggering Rs. 5,000.
So much so, except for the grass-bank ticket, the sky-rocketing Rs. 5,000 was a
blatant reflection, that during the opening day, only the Barmy- Army were
dominant in support and, our army still scratching their piggy bank.
Consequently, locals wishing to witness the dead rubber, from other cosy
stands have been clearly denied and deprived. In contrast and comparison,
ticket prices for the Colombo leg of the test series against the Proteas were
affordable and reasonable-plus.
Accordingly, for the South African test at the SSC, tickets were priced at Rs. 200
for Western and Eastern Standing hills, Rs. 500 for SSC downstairs and upstairs
pavilion and Dialog pavilion, to name a few and, SLC Upper Grand at only Rs.
750.
In a drastic let-down, for the concluding part of this tour, locals are left with
only two options. The latter, the four-figure price, too exorbitant for the
average and die-hard Lankan cricket fan.
