Steve Rixon has been appointed as the fielding coach of the Sri Lanka cricket team.
The former Australian cricketer, who has lot of coaching experience behind him, will join the team, currently in New Zealand, starting from December 24 The wicket keeper batsman Rixon , played 13 tests and 6 one day Internationals for Australia played 1977 to 1985 period .After the retirement of the International cricket he was appointed for the New South Wales coach and later he did his service for IPL Hyderabad Heros team and also the fielding coach for the Pakistan National side. The 64 years old experienced coach will join the Sri Lanka supporting staff headed by Chandika Hathurusinghe to facus the 2019 world cup .
“We are happy to welcome Steve into the team. I am sure he will be able to help the team move forward. With his expertise the Sri Lanka team’s fielding should improve, which is a vital component of the game,” said Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Rixon will work with the national team until the end of the 2019 World Cup.
In the meantime, Manoj Abeywickrema, the current fielding coach of the Sri Lanka team, will be drafted into the High Performance Centre to work with the Development Squads. Meanwhile reliable sources said Sri Lanka cricket is expected to get new batting coach for the team. Presently former Sri Lankan middle order batsman Tilan Samaraweera is the batting coach.
