Sri Lanka will go all out to defend their title in the ACC Emerging team cup final to be played on Saturday when they meet India in Colombo.

All eyes will be on young Kamindu Mendis, who had so far launched quite a solitary all-round display to help Sri Lanka reach the fianls. Mendis stroke three half centuries out of four matches during ongoing Emerging team Asia Cup cricket tournament said he was always playing for his team and happy to them win. “I have to play as a middle order batsman and also bowl as a spinner. I knew my role and always do my best for the team. I never think about my personal milestones and play normal game” said Mendis, who had already won the three man of the match awards in this tournament.

“I think my half century against Afghanistan was very crucial and it was more important to beat them and guide our team to enter semi final. I started this series with 76 against Oman followed by 71 against Afghanistan. However  scoring against 91 not out in 88 balls always very important at the semi final against Bangladesh” said Kamindu Mendis.

Sri Lankan emerging all rounder is confident that they could beat India in the final despite losing in the group stages. “We have a good chance of winning this match. we have to correct our mistakes and play positively towards victory” said Kamindu, who had already had a national cap in the T20 team playing against England.

Former Richmondite, Kamindu Mendis was thankful to his school coach Dhammika Sudarshana and then remembered all coaches namely Roger Wijesuriya, Roy Dias, Chandika Hathurusinghe and present coach Avishka Gunawadena, who had been helpful in his cricketing career.
