In a scenario of “while the cat is away, mice are at play” all four members of the former executive committee headed by Thilanga Sumathipala, will be contesting each other for the post of the presidency, where the former president and undoubted heavyweight in cricket elections, had decided to abstain him from contesting SLC elections which is scheduled to be held on February 7th.

However his executive committee members, which was elected in the last Annual General Meeting namely, two vice presidents, Kangadaran Mathivanan and Jayantha Dharmada, secretary Mohan de Silva and Treasurer Shammi Silva, all have handed nominations for the post of Presidency at the SLC elections on Monday. The nominations closed Monday evening and the elections are due to be held on February 7th.

Announcing his withdrawal from the cricket elections, five-time cricket chairman said that although he had no legal obstacles to contest this SLC election, he had opted himself out in order to concentrate more on his national political activities at a crucial juncture for the country.

Mathivanan will be assisted by Ranathunga party with former secretary Nishantha Ranathunga vying for the secretary post while Bandula Dissanayake will contest for the secretary post from Mohan de Silva’s camp.
