The Sports Ministry has temporarily suspended the registration of the Sri Lanka Cricket under Section 32 and 33 of the Sports Law, No.25 of 1973, in an extraordinary gazette notification No. 2104/33.
The temporary suspension shall remain until the office bearers are elected from the SLC election.
As an interim arrangement, the Sports Ministry has appointed the Secretary to the Ministry of Telecommunication, Foreign Employment and Sports W.A. Chulananda Perera as Competent Authority with effect from December 31, 2018 to continue with the administration and perform any such other functions necessary for the due administration of Sri Lanka Cricket.
“I, Harin Fernando, the Minister of Telecommunication, Foreign Employment and Sports by virtue of powers vested in me under Sections 32 (b) and 33 of the Sports Act, No. 25 of 1973 and it’s Amendments do hereby temporary suspend the registration of the Sri Lanka Cricket which is the National Association for Cricket and as an interim arrangement, appoint Mr. Wedikkara Arachchige Chulananda Perera, Secretary to the Ministry of Telecommunication, Foreign Employment and Sports as Competent Authority with effect from 31st of December 2018 to continue with administration and perform any such other functions necessary for the due administration of Sri Lanka Cricket until the office bearers are elected from the election.
Gazette Notification bearing No. 2094/ 37 dated 26.10.2018 is hereby rescinded with effect from 31st of December 2018.” the extraordinary gazette notification which was issued last Friday (04) said.
Chulananda Perera replaces Kamal Padmasiri who functioned in that position under former Sports Minister Faiszer Mustapha after the SLC elections scheduled for May 31 was postponed.
