Sri Lanakn shuttlers came back with a fine performance to beat Lithuania 5-0 in the 16th Sudirman Cup Badminton tournament which is now in progress at Guangxi Sports Centre Nanning, China. Sri Lanka, playing in the Group 3B beat Slovakia 4-1 n their opening game and well off against Lithuania on Tuesday.
Sri Lankan shuttlers dominated from the beginning and they won their singles men and women doubles matches and mixed doubles to make a clean victory against the Lithuanians.
Sri Lankans managed to beat them with two straight sets in every game to come forward in their group . Thilni Hendahewa and Sachin Dias the mixed double pair started with two straight sets 21/14, 21/11 win over Lithuanians Povilas Bartusis and Greda Voitechovskaja while Dilmi Dias came back strongly in her women’s single game with defeating Vytuate Fomkinaite 21/17, 21/14. Dinka Karunaratna outclassed Mark Sames with two easy sets 21/8, 21/11 to get 3-0 lead for Sri Lanka.
The womens double pair Thilini Hendahewa and Kavidi Sirimannage once again made it east with winning their game against Greda Voitechovskaja and Vytuate Fomkinaite 21/7, 21/16. The last game men’s double Sachin Dias and Buwaneka Gunathillkea made home comfortably with 21/11, 21/11 over Mark Sames and Povilas Bartusis to seal victory 5-0 over Lithuania.
After back to back victory over Slovakia and Lithuania Sri Lankan team today (22) will meet Switzerland in their last Group 3B game.
Meanwhile, Malaysia made a tough fight to beat India 3-2 in their Group ID game yesterday while Vietnam had to make 3-2 win over the USA in their Group 2A game. In the Group 3A game, Australia beat Nepal 3-2 and the same group Ireland beat New Zealand 3-2 after close fight .
