At least, three-to-four Lankan cricketers last seen in a One-Day International (ODI) only in 2017 or before, prompted the winning captain Eoin Morgan, to go surprised and pinpoint Sri Lanka, and not Jofrey Archer.
Morgan was taking up questions, at the post-match news conference, of the opening fixture between South Africa and England. One Q & A, switched the spotlight to Sri Lanka. Below is, how it’s transpired.
Journalist: Do you believe, Jofra Archer, is the main surprise package, of the tournament?
Eoin Morgan: Jofra Archer…. surprise package…. No, Sri Lanka have 10-new members, or something, don’t they? Sri Lanka has picked up couple of guys, I’ve never played against. I’ve been playing for 10-years. I think, that’s the surprise for me.
His answer clearly has implied, not “Jofrey Archer”, but the “Sri Lankan camp,”.
Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad, carrying some sans sufficient International (ODI) exposure, attracted criticism and surprises. Now, the latest has been, from an international and host captain.
Few of their last outing comprised, the skipper Dimuth Karunaratne himself (2015 WC), Milinda Siriwardana (2017 vs Pak), Jeffrey Vandersay (2017 vs Pak).
The two-time finalists, will be taking on New Zealand, in their tournament opener on Saturday (01), at Cardiff.
