Wade replaces injured Khawaja in Australia CWC19 squad

Usman Khawaja has been ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 with an injury to his hamstring.

Khawaja, who has played in all nine of Australia’s World Cup games thus far, has been in good form with the bat, averaging 35.11 at a strike-rate of 88.26.

He picked up the injury while batting in Australia’s last group stage fixture – a narrow loss against South Africa in Manchester that ultimately cost Australia their place at the top of the standings.

Khawaja’s replacement is the in-form Matthew Wade. Wade, who is a vastly experienced international cricketer with 94 ODI appearances to his name, has been in England for three weeks playing for Australia A and has notched scores of 117, 155, 41 and 42 against English domestic sides. He also provides additional cover with the gloves.

Australia face England in the second semi-final of the World Cup on Thursday, July 11 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
