Sri Lanka Emerging team led by Charith Asalanka emerged champions when they beat University Sports South Africa XI by eight wickets with 78 balls to spare in the final played at Pretoria, South Africa on Saturday.
Lahiru Madushanka the paceman took 4 for 35 while opener Pathum Nisssanka stroked an unbeaten 84 paved the way to clinch the champions in this triangular tournament.
Sri Lanka emerging team invited the University team to bat first and restricted them for 180 for 7 wickets in their 50 overs with Madusanka was leading the way with bowling while Asitha Fernando, Chamika Karunaratna and spinner Amila Aponsu took one wicket apiece.
In reply, Sri Lanka emerging team made a good start with Pathum Nissanka and Sadun Weerakkody adding 56 runs in 14 overs. Weerakkody was out for 26 while number three batsman Kamindu Mendis made 40 adding 85 runs f0r the second wicket. Nissanka who was scored fine century in their previous game once again showed his ability with an unbeaten 84 with 7 fours and 2 sixes in 108 balls while skipper Asalanka was unbeaten 29 with three sixes to seal victory in 37.4 overs.
Lahiru Madushanka was adjudged the man of the final for his superb bowling performances .
Sri Lanka beat South Africa emerging team in their first game by four wickets and they beat University Sport South Africa team by 2 wickets in the second game. In their third game, Sri Lanka emerging team beat University XI by 4 wickets with five balls to spare.
South Africa emerging team defeated Sri Lanka emerging team by four wickets in the fourth game while University XI beat Sri Lanka emerging team by two wickets in the fifth game. Sri Lanka emerging team then beat South Africa emerging team by 21 runs D/L system in their sixth game to enter the final.
