The first day of the second Ashes Test between England and Australia saw no play due to rain, with not a single ball bowled.
While the rain relented for a short period in the early afternoon, leading to an announcement that the toss would be taken at 3pm, the heavens opened once more to end the prospect of any action.
If there was a highlight to the day, it was a cap presentation for Jofra Archer from his close friend Chris Jordan, all but confirming that Archer will make his Test debut at the ground at which he helped England win the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup
