COPE (Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises) suspended Cricket Aid which established for Sri Lanka Cricket’s charitable activities, with immediate effect . The decision was taken at the committee meeting held on yesterday (3).
This is due to the failure of the Sri Lanka Cricket and the Cricket Aid Officers to comply with the recommendations of the COPE Committee and the failure of the SLC officials to inform the legal basis of the “Cricket AID”.
Several irregularities were discussed regarding Cricket Aid, where it was revealed that the Manager of Cricket Aid had taken salaries without a company even before it was registered.
Upali Seneviratne, Manager of Cricket Aid, received Rs 3.4 million as the salary and the total received on projects of the ‘Cricket Aid’ was Rs.2.4 million
Accordingly, the Chairman of the COPE Committee, JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti took steps to suspend the activities of the Cricket Aid Company until it was properly established.
