An eight-member Sri Lanka team is expected to take part at the 21st World Junior Badminton championship which is scheduled to be held from September 30 to October 13 in Kazan, Russia.
The boys team comprises Lochana de Silva from Nalanda College, Viren Nettasinghe from St Peters, Bambalapitiya, Chamath Dias and Thulith Palliyaguru from Richmond, Galle.
Dilmi Duas from Our Lady Victory, Moratuwa, Panchali Adhikari from Mahamaya, Kandy, Chamudhi Abeywickrma from Anula, Nugegoda, Anurangi Masakorala from Southernland College, Galle form the girls team. Chirath Illepuruma of D.S. Senanayake, Colombo and Jananuwani Amada from Visakha Colomo were named as reserve players of this tour.
Team Sri Lanka has been pitted along with South Korea, Singapore, Slovakia and Peru in their group. The team is currently taking part in a residential training program at the SLB Headquarters at Maitland Place, Colombo 7, under the close supervision of the coaches as the shuttlers prepare to face their international counterparts.
This time the championships will be conducted in two stages. The first stage is mixed team competitions from September 30 to October 5 while the second stage will be for singles and doubles events which will be held from October 7 to 13. Sri Lanka are grouped with South Korea, Singapore, Slovakia and Peru in the mixed team championships.
